Give the search a boundary
The design starts with a defined question and an approved collection of material. The user can see which documents are included, which version is being considered and whether relevant material is missing. That context would stay beside the answer as the work develops.
Keep the reasoning open to inspection
Each substantive answer would point back to the passages used to prepare it. A lawyer would check the source, consider whether it answers the actual question and record any further research needed. The proposed handover includes the checked answer and its source trail, so another person can examine the work without starting the search again.
